Apostle Islands Northern Lights 4923

     This was an image I had visualized for many years. Unfortunately, I had to wait that long for all the conditions to come into alignment. The Apostle Islands are located on the north shore of Wisconsin in Lake Superior. Even though it was in a northernly location having a solar storm strong enough to be seen further south than Alaska or Scandinavia was rare. Couple with that rarity with the need of no cloud cover and the moon not shining in the sky that night and all I could do was wait. With the forecast of heavy solar activity combined with a high pressure cell (no clouds) and the right time of the month for the moon to be absent, I waited out on the islands and kept my fingers crossed. My patience was rewarded.
