Italy Dolomite Mountains Seceda 0725

Seceda in the Dolomites is a spectacular ridge formed millions of years ago by crustal up thrusting that towers 1200 meters above the village of Val Gardena. The site is one of the most distinctive viewpoints in the Dolomites of northern Italy. Its sweeping grass plateau drops sharply towards the Odles mountain group creating dramatic lines and textures that have become an unmistakable image of the region. The result of the location and geological formation creates an epic blend of rugged alpine scenery with gentle meadows.

With dramatic storm clouds clinging to the nearby mountain peaks, I chose a distant location where I could look back on the grassy plateau and take in a panoramic view of the mountain range. An extended exposure time helped to shape the clouds and provide a sense of movement in the sky.
