Li River Red Sail 0825

     I was heading back down the Li River in Guilin after a day’s shooting in the surrounding karst mountains. It was just myself and the boatman alone on the boat. The river was empty of tour boats with only a very small number of boats to be seen. At the evening sky was painted by the setting sun, only a small, private cargo boat was ahead of us under one sail power. In the blue hour, the red sail was a splash of color against the blue tones along the river. As the clouds lit up with evening colors, they backlit the sail turning the boat’s sail into a bright neon red that I was able to capture before the light dimmed as we moved down river.
