Summer Mountain Wildflowers 9868

I find that there is a lot of peace and tranquility I can experience when I am out alone on a photo hike in the southern Rockies. Even more so when it is early summer and the mountain wildflowers are blooming and the air is unusually still. It feels as though Nature is holding its breath. I have mentioned before how I try to make images based more on what I feel and experience than with the elements I see before me. So how do I create an image that conveys the same sense of peacefulness that I felt while standing by this mountain lake?

The answer lay the elements of movement and texture. With little or no breeze, the flowers and grasses were still and the lake’s surface was fairly calm. The surface waters produced reflections that were softened rather than having a mirror-like sharpness. While the image is in sharp focus, the reflection from the lake’s surface along with the very soft features of the clouds created the texture I desired. Tranquility in a frame.
