Virginia Beach Morning 4785

How interesting can you make an image when you are alone on a 23 mile stretch of beach with nothing to see but endless sand and water? A good question and a photographic challenge. There was not much to work with in the came after being patient and letting time pass. The sun cleared the horizon, clouds formed and given a defined shape and color with the sunrise. As a landscape photographer, that was enough to work with to create a minimalist image with a wide-angle lens to enhance the feeling of expansive space.
I took a number of images for possible bracketing and had been using a fast shutter speed to freeze the wave action. I was thinking about what else to do when six seagulls approached from the north. What caught my attention was that they were flying not in the usual random formation of a flock but in line with each other. Highly unusual. The approaching line for gulls paralleled both the waves and the clouds as they moved on and off to my right rather than straight at me. Due to their speed I only had time for one shot where they were positioned perfectly in the frame. But one was enough as quality is more important than quantity.
